01. What is the ABS Table System?

The ABS Table System is a series of decompression tables designed by American Back Solutions, Inc. to treat a variety of lumbar patient indications.
See “Our Products ” for more information.

22. How does an ABS table treat a patient?

2Patients are fitted with unique chest and pelvic harness designed to target distraction to the lumbar region of the spine.

Depending on the individual’s metrics, a proprietary ABS decompression program is selected from the comprehensive ABS protocol. The selection considers the diagnosis and spinal tolerance of the patient.

Negative interdiscal pressure is rendered allowing herniated discs to begin recovery from acute and chronic trauma. The nature of the diagnosis will determine the treatment regiment thereafter.

23. What is Decompression?

Decompression involves the application of distraction forces to spinal structures in a graduated manner.

Negative interdiscal pressure within the disc is maintained throughout the treatment session. See “Decompression Therapy” for more information.

24. What is the difference between the ABS system and traction?

Traction disperses energy from weights between the majority of spinal segments thus reducing the actual amount of pull necessary to create negative pressure.

The ABS System isolates L1 through L5 by its unique air bladder and angle of distraction. Simple traction does not create high negative interdiscal pressure. The ABS System focuses on overcoming intrinsic muscle responses of the spine by relaxing the patient.

25. What is the patient inclusion criteria (diagnosis)?

The ABS System is designed to provide static, intermittent and cycling distraction forces to relieve pressures on structures that may be causing low back pain.

Specific indications will include: Chronic low back pain, disc herniation, disc bulge, sciatica, degenerative joint disease, acute lumbosacral strain/sprain, osteoarthritis, spinal stenosis, IVF, facet syndrome disc rupture extrusion and some failed back surgeries.

06. What results can I expect from an ABS table?

Most patients are scheduled for approximately 20 sessions lasting 30 minutes. The physician will customize this regimen to meet each patient's specific needs.

The treatments generally take place over a 4-5 week period. Often, most patients see relief as fast as the first 6 treatments.

Pre- and Post- treatment MRIs have shown a reduction in the size and extent of most patients' herniation(s) after the decompression treatment.

In initial clinical studies a majority of patients reported relief of back pain from decompression therapy.

07. What clinical studies have been conducted on the efficacy of the ABS system?

One study is: "New Concepts in Back Pain Management – Emerging Technologies." Additional studies have been conducted and are awaiting publication.

08. Is the ABS system registered for use?

The ABS system has received 510(k) notification.

09. What are the physical specifications of the ABS table?

See “Our Products” for specifications on each table.

010. What are the billing and CPT specifics?
